"A MIRACLE ON THE ROAD" | |
| Earlier
that year, I had been told by an astrologer that "a mercurial character"
was going to involve me in a car crash. It seemed impossible to me that
this would happen. I had already had a very serious car accident fourteen
years before that, sustaining multiple injuries which included a head
fracture that had put me in a coma for some days and crushing two lumbar
vertebrae.
The astrologer said that this accident was inevitable; and even if I were out on Bull Island, a large vacant, sandy area off Dublin's north side, it would still happen... Anyway, I had forgotten this prediction on a May evening when I was returning with a friend from a seminar on NLP (neuro-linguistic-programming). It had been a pretty interesting day and the last thing on our minds was the state of the roads. My friend was driving up Eglinton Road towards a junction of four roads and I wanted her to turn right onto Sandfort Road. A car was heading toward us from Milltown Road and we were not clear as to who had the right of way. As I was the person who was "on home territory", supposedly, she was asking me what to do. I said: "Turn right." And she turned right, putting us directly into the path of the oncoming car. As I was in the passenger seat, which in Ireland is on the left, the car was going to run straight into me at a speed of thirty to thirty-five miles. I looked at the car coming at me and I saw that I had no chance at all. No chance of getting out of the way. I looked quickly at the kind of injuries that I would have, and they looked to range from death to paralysis. " This is impossible", I thought. "It's impossible. I've already had my accident! It's impossible." The next moment, I saw that the other car was on the other side of our car and heading in the direction we had come from, with the driver tooting his horn to warn us of the danger! That was how quickly it happened. One moment there was going to be a crash, and the next moment the car had gone "through" us and was on the other side. It was such an amazing, startling event... It surely was a miracle - a miracle on the road. Thank God! S. O'H. - Ireland |
