I come from a very poor family from Nepal. When I was 12, my father and mother did not have enough to feed their children, so I left the homeland and went to India.  And then suddenly I was in Delhi and I had a book of Sri Aurobindo. And I liked this very much, you know. And I thought someone was talking my thoughts. And I left everything and then went directly to Pondicherry, South India.

After seeing the address in the book, because I wanted to go there, I left everything. But what I was missing I did not know that. Then as soon as I entered Sri Aurobindo’s ashram main building where Sri Aurobindo’s mother’s body lies in samadhi, there peace, calm, unity, love… everything I felt was embracing. My mind started stopping, you know…no movement. And I said, wow, this is the place to stay.  He has come when he was 18 years, to Sri Aurobindo Ashram, and mother put him into the service of Sri Aurobindo.  And I consider those three years as my golden three years of my life so far. 

I don’t know about future, that might be the better golden period... but so far those three years they were marvelous because he was like a Godsend, you know. He was very close to God. You know as Sri Aurobindo says, we are Sons of God... we must be his human portion.  So this place, you know, in his company, I liked very much. He gave me a lot but not by talking, you know, not by talking. It came automatically.  So I was sitting on his cot and giving my chest as support for his back, and suddenly he left the body.  I used to very often visit Ramana Maharshi, I used to read his books. And when he left the body I thought of roaming the Himalayas. You know that Sri Aurobindo has sat in one place and he said the French Revolution took place because of a yogi in the Himalayas who wished for it.  But finally it means that one man’s perfection can save the whole world.

So to know that past, to feel the past of the spirit, you are doing all these things.
